Lady Lillianne - skin painted

I am really proud of myself for this one. I'm very happy with the different tones of skin and I think the hands turned out not too shabby for now.

You can click the photo to enlarge but, let me just say that the photo is a really poor representation of what it actually looks like. In person, the skin looks so good!

So, "Lady Lillianne" is underway :)

"make a portrait with hands"

Well, in order to tick off one of my list of 10 things I want to accomplish for this month, I've started the line drawing of, what will soon be, my version of Rossetti's "Lady Lilith".

Yeesh!

I really had no choice--I had to grid her out because free-handing this one was just too scary for me. I'm not "there" yet.

I'm really looking forward to working on her and I'll be sure to show you my progress as she comes to life.

10 things every month

So my friend and former colleague Karen has started making a list of 10 things she wants to accomplish each month. I think this is a fabulous idea and I'm totally going to steal it! :D

So lets see, the 10 things I want to accomplish in the month of February are, in no particular order:

01. Make my bed every day:
02. Try a new recipe:
03. Get my finances back in order:
04. Take my recycling to the drop off
05. Make a vision board:
06. Make a portrait painting with hands:
07. Sell one piece of my artwork:
08. Lose 5 pounds:
09. Organize my bedroom closets:
10. Clean and organize my art studio

As I complete these I'll come back and check them off because, in my day to day life, I am a list maker and there's nothing like the feeling of being able to scratch an item off your list!

Tulip fabric paint cannon

There's been some talk online about the Tulip Fashion Graffiti Fabric Paint Cannon that was on display at CHA. The idea of being able to get the look of spray paint without having to actually spray paint really intrigued me. I live in an apartment and have no real place to be able to spray paint so all these nifty art journal techniques I've seen people do with spray paint, I've never been able to (boo!). Until now!

Well, I bought the cannon today and used regular cheapy acrylics, some water and some glazing medium and, I'll be damned, it works!

It really is a matter of getting the right liquid consistency but once you do, it's flipping awesome. It's just like spray paint!

I used my last page of my art journal to test it out and I'm really happy with the results. I like the dreamy-feeling that it gives to a background (it's the "Ocean Breeze" greenish colour). I'm going to need a few more of these cannons so I can have my favorite and most-used colours ready for action. This was just a plain background--I'm looking forward to testing this out with different stencils too!

This was seriously fun to use and I can't wait to try different "spray paint" techniques with the Tulip® Fashion Graffiti™ Fabric Paint Cannon™!

...and the winners are!

postcards 04 and 05

You know what? Doing postcards is HARD! When you only have limited space you have to be careful about the combinations! When I art journal I'm pretty messy and I feel like my pages give me plenty of room to experiment but with these 5"x7" postcards I feel super confined so doing them is a total challenge.

I wonder if anyone else if feeling the squeeeeeeeeeze. :)
